The salty part of the tongue, 2025.
Hosted by the Living Museum of the West, ‘The salty part of the tongue’ was a collection of pop up installations using video, sculpture, sound and text referencing archival images and resources from the museum’s archive. A tasting menu will accompany the installations with a small mouth full to match each artwork.
This project explores the cultural significance of salt, examining its dual role as both preservative and erosive, as well as its linguistic connotations, such as 'the salt of the earth' and 'to rub salt in the wound'. By reflecting on the archival form and the narrative construction of history in Australia - which often reinforcing Australian Nationalism perspectives - the work seeks to challenge these dominant narratives and offer alternative methods and ways of understanding and recording history.
